THE WAVE HOUSE

The Wave House by LABVERT

A Moving Story

Modern living means staging and representation as well as retreat and intimacy. Designer and architect Stephan Vary designed The Wave House so that the form and space give the impression of a self‐contained flow of movement. The central interior element is the gently rising stairway that connects all the living levels with each other and serves both as a stage and effective access to the interior. For the exterior, the curved roof follows of the interior movement and lies like a soft blanket over the structure of the house.

The unique shape of the house creates the perfect ambience. The construction gives way to the interplay between interior and exterior spaces. Thus, interesting geometries and openings emerge. The house gives a bright and airy impression both inside and out. Designed as a glass house, the villa is embedded in the environment and is virtually open to the landscape on all sides. Stephan Vary: “The most important aspect is the staging of the individual rooms and the wide lines of sight.”

But in more private spaces life is staged in and with nature. The many skylights provide these areas with plenty of daylight. Thus you can enjoy the blue sky overhead as you lie in the bathtub. Even the spectacular pool in the basement receives daylight and sun through a wide skylight.

The house is dominated by three materials: glass, concrete and wood. The floors and ceilings on the ground floor are made of wood. The walls are made of exposed concrete. The wooden deck is enclosed in a concrete frame. Upstairs, a concrete ceiling extends over the four guest rooms, each with a private bathroom and terrace. The house is an interplay of spaces, zones, rooms, stairs and terraces, all following one another like a natural landscape with magical sights and views.
