SKYHOUSE
By positioning Skyhouse at the level of the treetops, MVRDV preserves nature and simultaneously provides an escape from it. The house is composed as a sandwich of two decks among the tops of the existing trees.
The upper deck is a floating garden with panoramic views over the forest to the ocean. It offers a retreat from the forest and space for the forest to flourish virtually undisturbed. Underneath the sundeck is a lower deck conceived as a giant veranda, where the interior spaces of the house are located and where the forest’s foliage become the walls of the house.
Three different volumes are situated on the veranda: the living area, the sleeping area, and the pool. These three “huts” provide maximal contact with the surrounding landscape and form a village in the sky.
Skyhouse can be configured in numerous different ways to suit the owners and can be scaled accordingly to their lifestyle requirements and the location.
