ROX
Rox
Govaert & Vanhoutte
> a house for minimalist lovers in nature
The name Rox is a contamination of the words ‘rock’ and ‘ box’.
The pre-formed concrete structure of the house is a dynamic shifting of volumes of pure lines amidst the natural environment. The house is entered via an ascending driveway ramp to a parking area adjacent to the large glazed living room 2 and just beyond that the entrance to the house.
A basement garage is accessed by the descending driveway to a car port area and beyond recessed doors to a large garage. The house is arranged mainly over the ground floor with a part basement level and extends in total to 998m2. Rox can be reconfigured in various ways according to the shifting volumes of the concept design either smaller or larger in scale.
The south facing terrace area lies adjacent to living room 1 featuring a large low level fireplace as part of a pure minimalist approach to the design. The long swimming pool appears to be floating above the landscape and beyond is the large library / study area.
The social areas of the house including living room 1, dining and kitchen room, entrance, living room 2 are circulated around this south facing terrace and pool. The four large bedroom suites are located at the far end of the house behind the library and study area.
The basement houses a fitness and spa area, a cinema room and a 3-car garage.
The bedroom wing consisting of 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms all with dressing rooms are located next to each other on the east side of the house. The master bedroom, living area, bathroom and dressing area has a private terrace with a private Jacuzzi terrace on the roof above.
This long linear house design evokes the spirit of the architecture of Mies van der Rohe, and provides its owners with a clear minimalist living environment with expansive views to the nature beyond.
