DOUBLE HOUSE
Double House by Clancy Moore Architects
In thinking about the house we considered two basic types of early dwelling - the tent and the cave, and sought to make a house which is a conversation about the essential qualities of these origins and our relationship with them today.
The idea is that this ground floor pavilion is thought of as a tent - with a twist in its geometry it sits on the ground and is open to all directions - making a relationship with a series of slightly differing landscapes about the house.
Light filled and highly glazed it will change its character as the external environment does.
The basement is thought of as a cave, with curved walls setting up a carved and unfolding space in contrast with what sits above, and making spaces which are intimate and act as a retreat from the external environment for late evenings / winter etc.
It is concerned with being situated, about the necessary certainties of rootedness in the making of a dwelling.
Double House has been designed specifically to be adapted to five different size varaiants or more of the same design concept which opens up the oportunities for prospective owners with different requirements and levels of budget.
